Support pours in for flood victims

24th March 2021 | Eativity editors

Foodbank has once again stepped up its support for Aussies in need. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes, and many of those evacuated have already had a horrific 12 months, facing bushfires and job losses due to COVID in 2020.

Foodbank is standing ready to provide emergency food hampers to NSW flood victims. But they can’t do it without your support. A donation of just $35 will provide a flood-affected family with emergency food staples and drinking water.

Salvos serve up meals as Woolies “rounds up” support

Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) have served 3400 meals to first responders and NSW flood evacuees since turning out five days ago to support disaster response teams and people forced from their homes.

SAES food and support teams have set up at seven evacuation centres: Macksville, Bulahdelah, Laurieton, Kempsey, Taree, Richmond and North Richmond.

Woolworths supermarkets across New South Wales and the ACT are giving shoppers the option to “round up” their bill at checkout to support the Salvos’ disaster services.

Woolies has started the round-up with a $100,000 contribution to the checkout campaign which runs through until Sunday. Customers can also donate their Everyday Rewards dollars to any of Woolworths’ charity partners, including the Salvos, in the form of an eGift card. To send an eGift card to charity, simply login or register at Woolworths Gift Cards.

Coles pledges funds for flood-affected communities

Coles has pledged up to $1 million to a fundraising appeal for flood-affected communities in NSW and Queensland to enable not-for-profit organisation GIVIT to provide emergency and household items to local residents.

From today, Coles customers will be able to help communities impacted by the severe storms and flooding in NSW and Queensland by making a donation at any Coles store.

To provide support together with customers leading up to the Easter period, Coles will kick-start the fundraising appeal with a $100,000 cash donation and also match customer donations dollar-for-dollar up to $900,000.

GIVIT is currently working with the NSW and Queensland state governments to respond to the severe storms which have caused widespread destruction and devastation across the two states. All funds donated by customers and matched by Coles will help GIVIT to provide emergency and household items, including groceries.

To support GIVIT’s flood relief appeal, customers across Australia can donate any amount of their choice at any Coles supermarket, Coles Express store, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market or Vintage Cellars store across Queensland and NSW.

You can also donate goods and services to help flood-affected families. To find out what items are currently needed, head to givit.org.au/severe-storms-and-flooding
