Now that’s a hot cross bun and a half

In celebration of what makes every Aussie community different, this Easter IGA has teamed up with Melbourne baking prodigy Morgan Hipworth to create a loaded hot cross bun that’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. And a lucky few in Sydney will get to try it. As for the rest of us – don’t fret! We’ve got the recipe so you can try your hand at making it.

Independent supermarket chain IGA recently commissioned research into how Australians celebrate Easter and found that 60 percent of Aussies believe that their family’s Easter celebrations are pretty “standard”. But when delving a little deeper, IGA identified more than 130 unique ways Australians are planning to celebrate Easter this year, with answers ranging from the types of foods eaten, cultural customs and religious practices through to unique family traditions and special events.

He’s only 20, but Morgan Hipworth already has the world going nuts for his sweet creations.

In a bid to showcase the variety and diversity of the local communities that they’re part of, IGA has teamed up with TikTok star Morgan Hipworth from Bistro Morgan Bakehouse to create an entirely new spin on the traditional hot cross bun – and it’s literally loaded.

Hipworth’s hybrid hot cross bun features a gooey custard centre, crunchy bacon shards and crumbled honeycomb, finished with a dusting of sugar. The recipe can be found here.

At just 20 years of age, Hipworth is already a food sensation, with his artisan bakehouse now a Melbourne institution. He boasts an impressive TikTok and Instagram following, who just can’t get enough of his doughy, decadent and indulgent creations.

Hipworth’s hybrid hot cross bun will be exclusively available in-store at Romeo’s Foodhall IGA in Sydney’s MLC Centre from 9am, Tuesday March 30 for a lucky few to sample.
