3rd December 2020 | Eativity editors

It’s been a rough year for our seafood industry. You can help our fishers bounce back by cooking more Aussie seafood at home. Like this fresh and easy barramundi recipe.

We’re a land girt by sea, so it’s not really a surprise that we have some of the best seafood in the world. Choosing to buy Aussie seafood right now is a win-win move: not only will you get to enjoy the very best that our oceans have to offer; you’ll also be supporting the Australian seafood industry, which was one of the hardest hit when COVID came to town.

Our export markets collapsed, the foodservice sector shut down and our domestic markets were flooded with produce. It’s been one hell of a year for our fishers. And with China now adding a new threat to our lucrative export market, this means increasing domestic consumption of home-grown seafood has never been more important.

So head out to your local fish market or fishmonger, score yourself some quality Aussie seafood and help our fishers bounce back from a crappy 2020.

With Australian lobster exports to China being blocked, there’s plenty more for us to enjoy.

It’s easy as

Not sure what to cook with what you’ve bought? You’re not alone. While most of us love to order seafood when we’re dining out, a lot of people still feel a little intimidated by the thought of cooking with fish. But creating crowd-pleasing dishes with seafood is actually easy as. So, to help encourage more of us to give it a go, the Australian Seafood Industry has launched the Great Australian Seafood campaign.

The campaign aims to support all sectors of the seafood industry, from fishers and processors through to those in the foodservice sector. It will provide a much-needed boost to ensure the industry can have a strong, sector-wide recovery. It also aims to inspire Australians to start cooking more Aussie seafood at home. If every Australian bought just one extra serve of seafood a week, it would provide a huge boost to the industry.

To get you started on your seafood odyssey, we’ve shared a super easy, fresh and tasty recipe for Australian barramundi tacos. To make sure you’re buying sustainable Australian barramundi, look for the golden tick of approval. Barramundi displaying the tick has been approved by the Australian Sustainably Farmed Barramundi Certification Program.
